Schools through the St. Louis area were invited to compete in the Robotic Jamboree at SLUH High School. The Robotics Jamboree (sponsored by the
Clavius Project) is a competition where middle school students from different school’s will compete in a series of challenges. The more successful the team is at completing the challenges, the more points they will receive. Each challenge is worth anywhere from 1 to 5 points.
Monday afternoons beginning in the Fall, and continuing through the winter, the
Sts. Joachim and Ann Robotics Club met to test our creativity and learn how the Lego Mindstorm robots work. Under the guidance of
Mrs. Amanda Gougenhour,
Mrs. Diane Beck, and
Mrs. Donna Roth, the students programed robots to move in specific directions, drag objects, go around obstacles, and even make sounds.
On February 23rd, the group traveled to St. Louis University High School to participate in the Robotics Jamboree. The group consisted of 26 students from 5th to 7th grade. In pairs, the students worked to complete a variety of challenges and were scored by judges. Sts. Joachim and Ann Robotics Club brought home a Silver banner and the Leadership Award. The
Sts. Joachim and Ann robotics club looks forward to continuing the science of robotics next Fall.
